Vehicle SOLD – Subaru WRX STi

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi – Asking price: $17,500 – VEHICLE SOLD

This 2004 Subaru WRX STi  only has 72,000 miles on it and looks like it has never seen a winter (minus the 10 minutes it was outside so we could take some pictures). This STi is super clean and virtually has zero rust. Some of the bolts on the undercarriage still have the gold coating on them! This car runs and drives great, no serious issues, ready to pick up and drive.

Taylor Hoffman is a Subaru fanatic, so rest assured he has been through this entire car to make sure everything works great! If you’ve never driven a Subaru STi, there is nothing like it. Between Taylor and his wife, they have owned 9 and love these cars!

So, here is the deal with this little monster:

  • Freshly built motor with only 1,500 miles on it (motor built in CT)
  • New STi Case Halves
  • Stock Crank
  • CP Pistons (stock bore)
  • Carillo Rods
  • ACL Bearings
  • Stock Heads w/ Full Valve Job
  • Stock Cams
  • New Timing Belt w/ new Tensioner and all Pulleys
  • New OEM Water Pump
  • New OEM Oil Pump
  • New Drive Belts
  • Fresh Coolant (100mi)
  • Fresh Oil & OEM Filter (100mi)
  • Stock Clutch, great condition!
  • Stock Turbo, great condition, NO shaft play.

Along with the engine, some of the other Performance Mods this car has are:

  • Tumbler Deletes
  • AGP 3″ Hard Turbo Inlet
  • K&N Drop-in Air Filter (Just cleaned, 100mi)
  • Mishimoto Airbox-to-Inlet Pipe
  • Cobb Up-pipe
  • Cobb Downpipe
  • Cobb Cat-back
  • Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
  • Perrin Lightweight Crank Pulley
  • OpenSource Tune
  • Brand New Battery (100mi)

For more information, additional photos and a full “book” on this vehicle, see Taylor’s write-up on NASIOC

Of course with any used car, there are minor defects and they are exactly as described:

  • Trunk liner & spare are missing
  • small dimple in the trunk (view picture on NASIOC)
  • Front & rear bumpers were resprayed. The previous owner said there were minor scratches on both, so he had them repainted
  • The front bumper is cut out for a Front-Mount Intercooler… if you dont like the looks you could always put mesh in there, or put a Front Mount in, saves you a lot of work!
  • Belly pan (lower engine cover) is missing
  • 4th Gear makes a little noise. When i first got the car, it was grinding on 3rd-4th shift. I tore the trans down, replaced the 4th gear synchro and checked 4th gear, there was minor wear on the gear, but nothing significant. It is purely audible, and the BG trans fluid makes all tranny’s a little louder so it is magnified.
  • The tires are getting low on tread, probably 25-30% remaining and weather checking slightly. They should be OK in dry or damp, warm roads… but trying to drive this little baby home in the snow would not be such a great idea!
  • There is a crack in the Speedo Cluster Cover, purely cosmetic.
  • I dont have any key fobs or extra keys.
  • Carbon Hood Scoop has cracks in Epoxy
  • Front bumper has some scratches on RF

The Shivers – Advantages of a Remote Car Starter

Imagine mid-January in the Adirondacks: it’s in the single digits…if you’re lucky. You bundle up, run outside, brush off the snow on your car door with your sleeve, pull on the door handle and yank it open – prying it away from the ice build-up. Shivering, you get inside, fumble for your keys and start your car. Crank the defrost and heat up, jump back outside and start scraping the ice off your windshield. You brush the snow off the front of your jacket, get back inside the car, and spray the windshield washer fluid only to watch it freeze on your windshield. Backing out of your driveway you continue spraying the washer fluid hoping for a little opening in the windshield you can see out of so you can get to work without running into a snowbank. Does this sound familiar?? If so, a remote car starter might make your mornings a lot warmer!

Remote car starters offer you the ability to start your car from inside the warmth of your home, office or the grocery store with a key fob, giving your vehicle ample time to warm up and you a comfortable drive.

Remember that mid-January day with single digit temps? Now that you’ve started your car and let it warm up, there is no need to scrape your windshield or tug at your driver-side door to get in. Those cold days will feel much warmer when all you have to do is walk to your car, get in and drive away. If you let your car run long enough, the ice on your windshield and wipers will have melted – also preventing you from damaging your wipers when you turn them on.

December is right around the corner…remote car starters make the perfect gift for that loved one. Give Hoffman Auto a call to learn more about remote car starters or to book your installation.

Are You Breathing Leaves?

We are so lucky living in the Adirondacks to breath good quality air. When you spend a lot of time in your car and don’t take care of the cabin filter regularly, that air you’re breathing may not be so great! It’s important to replace your cabin filter to make sure it is doing its job – filtering the air you breath while driving. If you do not replace your filter and it gets clogged with leaves, pollen or a rodent nest, it’s not able to do its job. Even worse if a rodent has chewed through the filter while nesting and creates a hole in the filter, debris can fall into the blower motor and cause the motor to break, resulting in costly repairs.

Replacing a cabin filter usually costs around $75, depending on the vehicle. Hoffman Auto suggests replacing your cabin filter every 15,000 miles. Book your appointment online or give us a call at 518-523-2888 to have your filter replaced.

Caring for your Tires

We say it a lot here at Hoffman Auto – preventative maintenance is key to protecting one of your most expensive investments…your vehicle. While we take the time to care for your wheels and tires while they’re in the shop, it’s important for you, the owner to take some steps on your own to ensure the longevity of your HUGE tire investment.

The Importance of Vehicle Wheel Alignments

Preventative Maintenance is our mantra here at Hoffman Auto in Lake Placid, NY. Unfortunately, most customers do not have enough knowledge of preventative maintenance to know what should be done when, in order to save them time and money down the road. We always suggest our customers refer to their vehicle owner’s manual for more information on preventative maintenance for their specific make/model. Following recommended maintenance schedules can extend the life of your vehicle and increase its value over time.

Alignments are a very important preventative maintenance service, but most owners neglect it, not realizing how much this small investment can save your vehicle, tires, and pocketbook over time. An improperly aligned vehicle can result in accelerated tire wear, unstable and unpredictable handling, poor fuel mileage, steering and suspension wear, and accidents.

In the Adirondacks of Upstate New York, the weather can do serious damage to our roads and highways throughout the winter and spring months, causing damage to our vehicles. Potholes and frost heaves can destroy tires and certain suspension parts. When you invest more than $500 into your tires, the last thing you want is for our roadways to destroy them prematurely. A $70-80 wheel alignment can help your tires last twice as long as without one.

So what exactly is a Vehicle Wheel Alignment? Well, it’s basically what it sounds like; aligning wheels to make sure everything is straight, according to your vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. Hoffman Auto assures that your steering wheel is straight and all of your suspension components are still in good working condition.

Many times you won’t notice that anything is wrong with the alignment of your vehicle, that’s why we recommend alignments be done at a minimum of twice a year; usually around the same time you switch your summer and winter tires. Say both of your front wheels are “toed-in” (or both pointing inward, pigeon-toed), your steering wheel will be straight as an arrow, your fuel mileage will be average, but the outsides of your tires will start to wear like crazy. This is because you are “pushing” your front tires down the road, like a plow instead of your wheels being nice and straight and rolling themselves perfectly down the road. Another example is if the rear of your vehicle is out of alignment; you would never be able to tell the difference when you’re driving, but again rapid tire wear is the result. Here at Hoffman Auto, we have seen brand new card with fewer than 10,000 miles in need of an alignment due to our North Country roads.

For additional prevention, it’s good to have an alignment done after making contact with a large pothole or curb. Steering and suspension components are very easy to bend and a simple curb hit can throw something off, damaging your suspension or accelerating tire wear.
